The department provides population based services, information, and linkages to care that focus on early intervention and prevention.  Finally, our department is responsible to prepare and respond to public health emergencies.

Immunizations

The Health Department provides immunizations as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) for infants, children, teens, and adults.

In coordination with the Montana Department of Health and Human Services, we provide vaccines through the “Vaccines for Children” program.  No child is denied vaccine due to inability to pay.

All routinely recommended adult vaccines are offered; RCHD accepts Medicare, Medicaid, and most private insurances.

Influenza vaccine is provided to everyone aged 6 months and older.  Flu shot clinics are held annually each  October in Wolf Point, Poplar, Froid, Bainville, and Culbertson.

Walk in Days: Tuesday 1pm-4pm and Wednesday 9am-11am & 1pm-4pm
Appointment Day: Thursday 1pm-4pm and Some Fridays

Immunization services for all ages are also provided at the Roosevelt County Building at 212 Broadway Street in Culbertson on the 2nd Thursday of each month by appointment only.

Communicable Disease Control and Prevention

The Public Health staff on the look-out for reportable communicable diseases and outbreaks in Roosevelt County.  Once identified, investigation, and reporting take place, as well as application of the appropriate measures to control the disease. Anyone with knowledge of a reportable condition can report to the Health Department.  The department is on call 24 hours a day to receive emergency communicable disease reports.

We coordinate testing, treatment, and partner follow-up for STD’s, as well as offer confidential rapid HIV testing.

Family Planning

The family planning clinic provides reproductive health services to both women and men, regardless of ability to pay. Our clinic offers a sliding scale fee for individuals with low incomes and those without insurance. You can also use Medicaid or other insurance to cover family planning services – just remember to bring your card to your appointment.

The Following Services Are Provided at RCHD:

  • NEW: Women & Men’s Exams are NOW available by appointment ONLY
  • Birth control and counseling available for pills, Depo, Nuva Rings
  • Long-acting birth control may be available if eligible
  • Pregnancy testing and counseling
  • Testing and treatment of Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs)
  • HIV Rapid testing and referrals
  • Health education
  • Free Condoms

Parents as Teachers Home Visiting Program

All children will learn, grow, and develop to realize their full potential.

Parents as Teachers is a free service from the Roosevelt County Health Department that will help support you in becoming your baby’s first, best teacher…even before your baby is born.  Our certified Parent Educators will visit you at home or other comfortable location to help you understand and make the most of the stages your child is going through.  He/she will meet with you regularly to listen to your concerns, show you creative ways to interact with your child, and coordinate support to help your child succeed.  You and your baby will have fun and make friends with other parents at our family get-togethers. Your home visitor will stand by your family for up to 3-5 years while you become a more knowledgeable and successful parent.

We will provide:

  • Encouragement in healthy parenting practicesActivities to help strengthen your family
  • Developmental and health screenings to detect delays or problems early
  • School readiness activities – A strong emphasis is placed on reading.  A book is given at each visit!
  • Connection to needed resources

Emergency Preparedness

The Roosevelt County Health Department participates in the Montana DPHHS Emergency Preparedness Grant Program.

Funding provided by the CDC is used to support:

  • Planning and Assessment
  • Surveillance and Epidemiology
  • Laboratory Capacity
  • Health Alert Network
  • Emergency Risk Communication
  • At Risk/Special Populations Groups
  • Education and Training

Activities directed by the grant requirements help prepare us to meet any large-scale public health threat.

Tobacco Use Prevention

The Roosevelt County Health Department is part of the Tobacco Use Prevention Coalition of Northeast Montana, which reaches Sheridan, Roosevelt, and Daniels counties.  The Coalition is a community-based tobacco use prevention partnership team that raises awareness about the adverse health effects of tobacco use and the need for prevention.  The program helps support and implements tobacco-free policies and activities within our region.

DUI Task Force

The Roosevelt County DUI Task force represents a diverse cross section of the community that includes citizens, government officials, law enforcement, businesses, health professionals, and prevention and treatment specialists appointed by the Roosevelt County Commissioners with the mission of reducing alcohol and drug related motor vehicle crashes, injuries, and deaths in Roosevelt County.  Efforts include education regarding alcohol and drug consequences, promotion of healthy choices, and community involvement.
